Foods to Eat – Foods to Avoid

Foods to eat for a Sattvic mind:

  • Fruits of all types, especially those that are naturally sweet (e.g.: apples, kiwi, prunes, apricots, loquat, tangerines, bananas, lychee, pomegranate, cantaloupe, mango, papaya, cherries, melons, nectarines, cranberry, honeydew, oranges, grapefruits, watermelon, pineapples, grapes, peaches, plums, guava, pears, persimmon)
  • All vegetables, except onions and garlic (e.g.: artichokes, eggplant, lettuce, beets, mustard, greens, asparagus, endive, fennel, maitake, parsnips, bok choy, peas, broccoli, green beans, potatoes, brussels sprouts, kale, radishes, cabbage, leeks, lima beans, shallots, carrots, celery, spinach, cauliflower, chard, chanterelles, sprouts, corn, squash, shitake, mushrooms, watercress, turnips)
  • Whole grains (e.g.: amaranth, barley, buckwheat, bulgur, millet, quinoa, rice: basmati, brown and wild rice)
  • Legumes (e.g.: beans, lentils, chickpeastofu, mung)
  • Plant-based natural oils (e.g.: sesame, sunflower, coconut, olive oil)
  • Nuts and seeds, not salted or overly roasted
  • Natural, raw sugar such as coconut sugar, maple syrup, Stevia, raw honey
  • Herbal teas, water with lemon and/or lime
  • Sweet spices, like cinnamon, cardamom, mint, basil, turmeric, ginger, cumin, fennel
  • Seed milk, hemp milk, almond or other nut milk
  • Food prepared with intention, love, and gratefulness

 

Foods to avoid or to reduce when eating for a Sattvic mind:

  • Meat and fish of all types, including eggs
  • Processed and/or artificial foods, such as junk food, artificial sweeteners, sodas
  • animal fats, margarine
  • Fried and deep-fried foods
  • Canned foods, except naturally canned tomatoes and fruit (sugar-free)
  • White flour, white sugar or any other type of refined sugar
  • Garlic, onions, spicy foods
  • Stale or overly cooked foods
  • Microwaved foods
  • Alcohol, tobacco and stimulants
  • Foods that are genetically modified (GMOs)
  •  Foods that are eaten in a rush or in a disturbed environment
